Sign language

Sign language allows us to expand our communication possibilities, broadening our communicative horizons and facilitating the daily routines of the educational team. For this reason, we also offer parents the opportunity to get involved in the development of this linguistic code through workshops and training activities.

Baby sign language is based on specific gestures taught to babies so they can reproduce and communicate with their hands. This method, known as Baby Sign, has been used in the United States for 30 years, and numerous studies show it develops babies’ IQs.

Babies can learn to gesture or sign hundreds of words, which promotes better communication and helps us understand what the baby needs. When we progressively get to know babies, we begin to decipher what they need and learn to interpret what they are trying to communicate to us.

WHAT IS BABYSIGN?

Numerous studies have shown that babies are able to learn, understand and repeat gestures long before they can speak. This new technique is based on this principle and, based on it, has developed signs with which children are able to express themselves and, in this way, make their needs understood.

Baby signs serve as communication, even more so if two languages are used at home. Baby signs are based on ASL (American Sign Language), so the sign will always be the same for “apple” or “manzana” (apple). This will help us encourage and stimulate bilingualism at an early age.

Non-verbal communication represents 80% of our communication, and babies are able to use their hands long before their voice, which is why more and more families are starting to put the BabySign technique into practice.

Remember that each baby will have their own learning pace and we should not be impatient waiting for immediate results. We must bear in mind that the method itself is a stimulation of language in general and that it will have a positive impact on the little ones. Before we know it, our babies will begin to approximate signs and will quickly increase their repertoire and precision.
